Mary Enns (nee Pauls)

With great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Enns on Wednesday, April 5 at Deer Lodge Centre.

Mary life began on November 8, 1942 in Osterwick, Manitoba, she lived near there throughout her childhood and young adult life with her parents and three siblings Peter, Helen and Anna.

Before starting her family, she moved to Portage la Prairie and worked at different positions, usually tied to accounting practices. Once her children Jacqueline and Jeffrey arrived, they became her priority and she didn’t return to paid work till later in life.

Mary’s passions of travel, food, family, and friends were a cornerstone throughout her life. Her love of baking, whether it was with her own children, with friends and later life with her cherished grandchildren Emily and Aimie was evident. Not only Mary’s friends and family enjoyed and appreciated her baking, she also won awards for her delicious desserts, which is probably why they never stuck around long in the house!

In the early years, Mary’s travel consisted of weeks to month long trips to the southern states in the motor home with her family to escape the Manitoba cold. Later, when her children were grown Mary would take more exotic vacations; often escaping to some southern destination with a friend.

Mary’s plans for her retirement were to continue to do the things she loved, including travel. Unfortunately, she soon developed symptoms of Parkinson’s and most of her plans were not realized. Mary continued to be interested in the adventures of her friends and family, always intent on the details of their trips and exploits. A big thank you to those who went to visit Mary at Deer Lodge, even though she was unable to communicate as she would like, she very much appreciated your visits; without them her last few years would have been more trying.

In memory of Mary’s wishes her family plans to take her with them on vacation to those destinations she never reached and to leave a small part of her there.

Memorial service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Mary’s honour to a children’s charity of your choice.
