Peacefully with family by his side Gerry passed away at Victoria hospital on January 19th 2014 at the age of 44 years.
He was predeceased by his grandparents Joseph and Jeanette Donolovitch.
Gerry will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his parents Edward and Esthela, his older brother Joey younger sister Marla and only niece Shaylene.
Gerry was born on January 5th 1970 in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, where he lived with his parents, and siblings until the age of 7. Due to the condition that both Joey and Gerry were born with, they needed extra care that was offered by St. Amant. In 1977 both Joey and Gerry were welcomed to the caring grey nuns at St. Amant centre. Gerry loved sharing a room with his brother on 1 West living unit, where Gerry would never allow them to be separated. Gerry loved all the staff that cared for him over the years.
Gerry absolutely loved attending St. Amant School and graduated in June of 1991, he adored all of his teachers. While in school he learned to communicate by pointing to bliss symbols on a bliss board. Through the school he went on many outings, where they would plant gardens, got the opportunity to meet an original Jets player, and participate in class picnics. He also learned to use a computer communication device called a DynaVox, which allowed him to send and receive emails from his sister which he loved to do. Gerry participated in a Literacy Class which he loved as he got the opportunity to do anything from cooking, constructing a weather beam, to learning about insects. Gerry received many awards from his literacy class, which he was so proud of.
Every Summer Gerry and Joe would fly home to Lynn Lake to spend summers with Mom, Dad and Marla. While in Lynn Lake they would spend time at the beach and indulge in picnics. When Mom and Dad finally moved to Lac Du Bonnet in 1990, Gerry would then start spending summers there, this time with Mom, Dad and Shaylene. Gerry was well travelled as not only did he spend summers in Lynn Lake, and Lac du Bonnet, he and Joey also took a family trip to Mexico. With their parents and grandparents Joey and Gerry visited Puerto Vallarta, and mom’s home town of Compostela.
Gerry was a huge foot ball fan, and had the opportunity to attend many Bomber games with Mom, Marla, Shaylene or a St. Amant Recreation staff member. He loved the Blue Bomber’s but only if they were winning and wouldn’t hesitate to cheer for the other winning team. Not only did Gerry visit many bomber games, he also liked to go on outings to the Forks with mom, all the different shopping centres, various museums around the city and countless other locations.
Gerry’s favorite season was fall. He loved to go outside and watch all the leaves change color and fall off the trees. He would then say good-bye to them because he knew that new leaves would grow back in the spring. Anyone who knew Gerry could tell you how much he loved mom’s perogies and apple pie. As everyone would ask Gerry “where’s mine”? , where he would always reply with a simple “no” and a smile you knew he wasn’t going to share his perogies and pie with you.
Gerry had an infectious smile that would light up a room. He had the ability to make anyone laugh with his great sense of humor, and charm.
If people wish to honor his memory donations can be made to St. Amant Foundation 440 River Rd.
