Sadly we announce the passing of Walter Prokop on November 26, 2016. Left to cherish his memory are his son Grant (Nancy) and daughter Cheryl (Lorne) Repas; and grandchildren Neal and Lisa Prokop and Colin, Christopher and Nigel Repas. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife Ruby (Nuttall) in 2013, parents Anna (Kozar) in 2003 and Bill (1977) and his sisters Elizabeth (2005), Alice (2002) and Lois (1994).

After the loss of his guiding light … Ruby, his was an unspoken sadness that his diminishing memory almost seemed to guard against remembering. Always it was known by his family that Dad cared and wanted the best for them and to provide for their future. He was proud of all his grandchildren, always generous. Taking his grandchildren to Disney World was special for him.

Born in Hudson Bay, SK Dad started hauling freight for CNR and 43 years later retired as a train dispatcher. In 1951 he met Ruby while working in Grand Beach at the CN station. Married in 1953, they headed from Winnipeg to Red Lake Road, ON (population 100). When the CN station was closed in 1960, with a 3 year old and newborn they returned to Grand Beach where Dad was its last station agent before passenger service was eliminated after the summer. The next 8 years were split between Lintlaw, SK and Ochre River, MB followed by 9 years in Dauphin. Involvement in community and their children’s activities as well as time spent with friends and relatives and yearly family vacation trips were Mom and Dad’s greatest pleasures.

In 1977 Dad was transferred to Winnipeg where he and Mom joined St. Bartholomew Anglican Church. After their retirement in 1987 they enjoyed travelling and winter months spent in warmer climates. Until he moved from his home in 2013 Dad maintained his yard with great care.

Walter’s funeral will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm at St Bartholomew Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Drive.
