<div itemprop="description">Stan passed away on Thursday, February 19th. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia; children: Lori (Rob), Don (Kelly), Linda (Rollie), Lisa (Dave) and David (Rachel); grandchildren: Keely, Kody, Kyla, Kaelyn, Keira, Lonny, Ren&eacute;e, Miguel, Elizabeth, Jacqueline, Jeffrey, Douglas, Davis and Evangelyn. He is also survived by sister-in-law Carol Oliver and loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Douglas, mother Ethel and sister Kay Bliss.<br /><br />Born in Winnipeg, Stan grew up in St. Vital. He attended Glenwood School, Glenlawn Collegiate and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Civil Engineering.<br /><br />After beginning his career at Imperial Oil, Stan moved on to the Manitoba Government as Director of Parks. He then became Deputy Minister of Tourism, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, and later chaired the Clean Environment Commission. After retirement, he continued working for the Manitoba Government as Chairman of the Conawapa Environmental Assessment Panel.<br /><br />Stan had a great love of music and especially enjoyed singing Barbershop with the Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen and the Happy Homesteaders. He was very knowledgeable, well-read and politically-minded, following both historical and current events. He enjoyed sports, playing bridge with friends, and engaging in stimulating discussions on a wide variety of topics, often enhanced by his dry, quick wit and keen sense of humour.<br /><br />Stan loved nature and was proud of the cottage he and Sylvia built at Falcon Lake. Many years of happy memories with family and friends were created there over the past six decades.<br /><br />Stanley was a true gentleman, a kind, generous and compassionate man who had a positive impact on many lives through his words and actions.<br /><br />He will be remembered and loved through his legacy of a life well lived.<br /><br />A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 7th, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.<br /><br />In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.<br /><br />They whom we love and lose are no longer where they were before.<br />They are now&hellip;wherever we are.<br /></div>
