It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving father Richard Solomon, on February 16th 2017 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 64.

He was predeceased by his father Conrad and mother Fleurette, as well as his sister Sandra and brothers Michel and Paul-Emile. Richard will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters Christine (René and Léo), Martine (Zachary and future granddaughter), Valérie (Joel) and Stéphanie (Sean, Miranda, Carson and Emilie). He will be deeply missed by his significant-other Cindy Lewchuk. His memory will also be cherished by his brothers Conrad and Robert, his sisters Pauline and Diane, his nieces, nephews and many friends, as well as by the mother of his three daughters, Suzanne Laliberté.

Richard was born on August 9th, 1952 in Hull, Québec. He grew up and lived in Hull working as an iron worker with his dad for many years and later moved to Winnipeg and worked as a truck driver. He had his daughter Stéphanie with his first wife and in 1983 he re-married and had three more daughters, Christine, Martine and Valérie.

Richard was known for his sense of humor, sometimes known to be inappropriate but always took pride in making people laugh. He was an amazing uncle, father and grandfather and a dedicated member of his community. He was a member of Goulet Council Knights of Columbus for many years. Richard also had a passion for volunteering where he spent many years helping out the Centre Flavie-Laurent and volunteering throughout the community.

Ricky would be the first to say that his life was not always easy. He struggled with addictions and fought hard to overcome them. Throughout his years of recovery, he received his counselling certification and worked at Maison St-François D’assise to help others struggling with addictions. He was often asked to speak in schools about his trials and tribulations and received many thanks for his words of encouragement and his courage when sharing those stories of struggle.

He really enjoyed fishing and boating with his family as well as competing in fishing tournaments. He had a passion for playing guitar and for all types of music. Richard was also known as a ‘jack of all trades’; he fixed computers and loved working on cars, he had a small engine repair company and enjoyed doing home renovations. Needless to say, if you needed help with something, he probably knew how to fix it, and if he didn’t, he would have told you he had done it a million times before and fixed the problem without concern. Another item worth mentioning was his love for painting and drawing. His artistic abilities were passed down from his mother, which he shared with his daughters, always encouraging them to pursue whatever inspired them.

A celebration of Richard`s life will be held on February 24th, 2017 at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home at 10:00 am.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital in the Palliative Care ward for their kindness and compassionate care in Richard`s final days.
