With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Lillian Margery Gibbings (nee Conway) on March 19, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Mum will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by daughters Lynne, Brenda (Rick), sons Glen (Rose), Gerry (Kathy), Gordon (Annette); her grandchildren Geoff (Christine), Brett, Carly (Tristan), Korin, Kerri (Marc) and great grandchildren, Austin, Garrett, Cora, Raya, Benjamin, Isabelle and Jacob. She also leaves to mourn her passing, her dearest lifelong friend, Vi in England.

Lil was predeceased by her loving husband Herb (Gibb) in 2014 after 68 years of marriage.

Mum was born on February 28, 1924 in Poplar, England, the last survivor of nine children. Despite living through WWII, including the direct bombings of her family home at #1 Northumberland, the silver lining was meeting the love of her life, Gibb, an RCN sailor who swept her off her feet at a dance in Paignton, Devon. They were married in England on July 7, 1945 and Mum immigrated to Canada arriving on Canada Day in 1946!

Mum and Dad raised five children in a small loving home on Erin Street in the west end with wonderful neighbors and friends. They enjoyed several trips back to England to visit family and many trips to Barbados and Jamaica. A favorite vacation was with the whole family in 1991 to Negril, Jamaica.

As a devoted mother, raising her children was her priority however as the children grew older she ventured into the workforce as a teachers aid which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Mum was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #1 for 48 years where she and Dad made many wonderful friendships attending functions and enjoying many fun filled excursions. Mum was a dedicated legionnaire, always volunteering. By far the most joyous times spent at the Legion were on the dance floor where Mum and Dad excelled.

Life was filled with many simple pleasures including family gatherings and enjoying the company and antics of her children's friends who often gathered at Erin Street for fun, music and lively conversation! Mum also loved family sing a longs of which there were many!

Mum loved attending and watching her grandchildren's soccer and hockey games and although we never thought of Mum as a lover of sports, after Dads passing she became an avid Winnipeg Jets fan.

In most recent years, Mum's passion was her weekly Wednesday outings with the St. Vital Y where she made many dear friendships. She held the highest regard for the coordinators, particularly Lynn, who made it so special. She also enjoyed the many new friends she made at Dakota House over the last year and a half.

Although she suffered many years with chronic pain, she always kept a brave front and soldiered on, rarely complaining. Despite her suffering, our Mum was an absolute delight and had a charm that made her so endearing to everyone she met. Mum was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who had an immense love for her family.

A Celebration of Mum’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private family interment will be held at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers donations to Children’s Hospital or the Dream Factory or a charity of your choice in memory of Lil would be appreciated.

We will always cherish the wonderful memories of our precious Mum. We miss you so...

"Till we meet again"
