It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved dad and grandpa, Len Friesen, on Sunday, January 8, 2017.

He will be sadly missed by his children Bill and Wendy, his son-in-law Carl, and his cherished grandsons Braedon, Riley, and Justin, of whom he was so extremely proud. The loss of our dad will also touch the lives of his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, special cousins, nephews, nieces, and his many great friends - including Bev, his special friend and companion.

Dad was predeceased by his parents Maria and Jacob Friesen and his loving wife of 51 years, Wilma. She waited for him for almost seven years. Mom and Dad can now continue their dance together in heaven.

Dad had a full and happy life, filled with love, friendship, success, and celebrated moments. He had a very tragic beginning, however, when he lost both his dad and grandpa in an accident when he was only a few months old. His mom raised him on her own and he was her pride and joy until her passing at age 95. Dad grew up as an only child, but he never mentioned being lonely or wishing for siblings. He was very close to his cousins and that continued throughout his life. They were like brothers and sisters to him. He spoke fondly of his aunts and uncles as well, sharing many stories over the years of fun times spent together or getting into trouble with his cousins!

Dad loved everything about family. It didn't matter to him if you were actual family; you were accepted as though you were. His grandsons' godmother, Sharon, was like a daughter to him and Jossie quickly became an adored addition to the family. He was admired, loved, and respected by his children and his grandsons.

Dad was the go-to person for advice, fixing things, chats about finances, investments, travel, recipes, and general upbeat, witty conversation. Braedon had many talks with Grandpa about stocks and investments over Nips at Salisbury House. Grandpa also loved hearing about his grandsons' band and recently stated, with simple expectation, that Braedon should "write some winners." Riley walked down the block to Grandpa's house regularly just to hang out and chat or fix his phone and computer for him. Dad still talked about how Riley was a lifesaver in that first year after Mom passed away. Riley kept him company every single night and Dad was very thankful for that.

Dad had a strong faith in the Lord and carried himself with strength and dignity until the end. His determination was both amazing and devastating to see. I am thankful, Dad, that you are now free from the pain and suffering that you experienced at the end; however, you are missed and loved beyond words.

Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., with Pastor Paul Clerc officiating. Viewing takes place from 1:00-2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers include Dad's lifelong friends Ewald and Bill, as well as our special friends and family, Rick, Sharon, Andrew, and Julie.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba in memory of Len Friesen.
