Karl Edward Olafson passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital on December 19, 2013. Left to fondly remember him are his wife Ruth, son David, daughter Karen (Leo), grandchildren Jordan and Danielle, brother Ron (Gail), Pearl and Ed, Betty, and other family in Canada and Sweden. Karl was predeceased by parents Fridolf and Hilma, and brother Ole. Karl was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on October 13, 1930 to Swedish immigrants and grew up at isolated whistle stops along the CNR main line in Northwestern Ontario. He had the distinctive experience of obtaining schooling in railway school cars and developed a life-long love for the lakes and fishing. Karl spent most of his career working for the CNR where he made many friends over thirty years. He retired in 1985 and enjoyed travelling on many trips with his wife Ruth, including a trip to Scandinavia. Karl also had the chance to express his creative side in retirement through his drawing, stained glass work, and his memoir “A Sentimental Journey”, which is an important legacy for his family and friends.
Thanks to the Victoria General Hospital Intensive Care Unit and home care staff for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of one’s choice. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 27th at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg
