Beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Jack Van Lieshout, passed away peacefully at Donwood Manor on January 30, 2016. Predeceased (2012) by his loving wife of 57 years, Joanne, Jack is survived by his 3 sons Jack Jr. (wife Chris), Roger (partner Shawn), Robert (partner Darlene), and nephew Nick (wife Louis). His first son John died in infancy. He was also very proud to have 4 grandchildren Kevin, Robert, Colin and Amanda. Jack also leaves to mourn his passing family and friends in Holland.

Jack was born to Johannes and Johanna Van Lieshout in Mierlo, the Netherlands, on December 17, 1926. He was one of 6 sons and 4 daughters and grew up in the south of Holland through the adversity of the Great Depression and Second World War. In 1954 he set out by himself immigrating to Canada where he met his future wife on their trans-Atlantic journey.

Jack and Joanne were married in Winnipeg the following year on May 21, 1955, and settled in St. Vital to raise their family. He worked as a machinist at Markwell Industries in Transcona until his retirement in 1992. Jack enjoyed taking his family traveling and frequent camping trips, and he also loved cycling and walking his dogs, garage sales, home improvement projects and all things mechanical, and spending time with family and friends.

He was a quiet gentleman who will be remembered fondly for his kind manner, sense of humour, loyalty and attention to family friends and neighbors, devotion to his wife, an adventuresome spirit and strong passion towards social justice. Jack worked hard, never complained and was grateful for all he had. His was a life well lived.

Friends are invited to join family for a memorial service at Donwood Manor, 171 Donwood Drive in Winnipeg on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 2:00 pm. Jack will be interred alongside his wife at a private family service.

Jack’s family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff at Donwood Manor for their exceptional care. Should friends so desire, a donation to the Donwood Manor Foundation in lieu of flowers would be much appreciated.
