It is with heavy hearts our family announces the peaceful passing of Helen Butt of Winnipeg on January 24, 2015.

Helen is survived by her husband of 50 years Don, her children Karen (Rob), Bryan (Aggie) and Carol Ann. As well as grandchildren Brian, Cassandra, Josanne and Danyk. She also leaves to mourn her siblings Rudi (Rose), Wally (Bev), Susan (Kerry), Helga (Bert), Jayne (Henry) and numerous nieces and nephews and family in Europe.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Edward and Alvina Grestchman.

Mom and her family came to Canada in 1954, she worked in the factory for Sporty Fashion before she started working for Malabar’s until 1964 where she met her future husband and started a new chapter in her life. Being a stay at home mom was mom’s calling, kids were her life, family was her life, and it showed by all the visits she did with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Mom was always one of the first ones there for the new births and to support anyone in the hospital.

Mom had a busy social life. She played baseball with the woman’s senior softball team in the late 1970’s, loved music and to dance. She would mall walk every day at the mall and loved to go to the “office” and play bingo, she also loved to play poker and really enjoyed playing in the Texas Hold ‘em Tournaments.

Mom had a mischievous side to her which never left. Mom will be remembered for her generosity, kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need. One of the greatest gifts she left us was the ability to accept and love without judgment.

We would like to thank all the staff on the 3rd floor at Taché Centre for your awesome care and love of our mom.

Viewing will take place 1:30 to 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 29, 2015 with a celebration of Helen’s life to follow at 2:00 pm at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba, 2-1313 Border Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3H 0X4.

“We love and will miss you mom, but you will live on in all of us.”
