Fumio Yamada
January 4, 1917 - January 14, 2013
Fume passed away peacefully, bidding a final farewell to winter. He is survived and missed by his wife Betty of 62 years and leaves a legacy of memories for his daughter Karen Yamada and grandchildren Bryn and Burke Wiebe. He was pre-deceased by his son-in-law Randy Wiebe.
Fume was a self-employed custom homebuilder and proud craftsman for over thirty years, leaving many unique, long-lasting Yamada Builder homes in communities in and around Winnipeg. He enjoyed an equally lengthy retirement as a snowbird to Mission, Texas, fishing at the cottage at Big Whiteshell Lake, renewing bicycles, motors and machines of all sorts and cultivating his garden at Karen’s house.
Fume grew up in Pitt Meadows, BC, was relocated to Manitoba during the war, establishing a family and business in Winnipeg. He will be remembered for his resourcefulness, capacity for innovation and remarkable self-sufficiency.
